Bulimia Nervosa is an eating disorder characterized by binge eating episodes, recurrent inappropriate compensatory behaviors to prevent weight gain, and self-evaluation influenced by body shape and weight. The binge eating and inappropriate compensatory behaviors must occur on average at least once per week. The binge eating episodes are characterized by eating a large amount of food and a lack of control over eating. Individuals with Bulimia Nervosa engage in behaviors to compensate for binge eating episodes, such as self-induced vomiting, misuse of laxatives, diuretics, or other medications, fasting, and excessive exercise. The female-to-male ratio of prevalence of Bulimia Nervosa is 10:1.
